just one thing, IF, Harry wasn't an English speaker. he was the Original Colombian ;D
_____
NJS: totaly right. players coming from the so called 'superior' nations have a devil of a time adjusting here; while players from Africa, South America, East Europe and such, feel like they've come up in the world, to great new oportunities. That's a recognized fact, so there seems to be a shift in the recruiting policies... we are now looking more towards South America.
Our big new signing is an player from Argentina, who has a very good resume. He's also under 25, another new trend here, going away from established veterans.

Colombian - I realize Harry's Colombian, but his English was rather good.... well, compared to Tommy's, anyway. ;D NJS - True, us English teachers usually don't last long.... just look at me! But if the overall working conditions weren't so arse, I doubt so many would be leaving. Funny though, it wasn't the job itself that drove me nuts, but the side things I kept worrying about (getting my last pay, getting my severance pay, etc.). If people could be certain they wouldn't be screwed over, so many more would be heading over to Korea. Japan has much better working conditions, and hence it's the #1 place to be. In my opinion, the only real reason so many head to Korea these days is the low cost of living, which allows you to save considerable money practically without even trying. Good luck doing that if you live in Tokyo or Osaka. I dunno.... perhaps lessons in Korean language should be necessary for "first world" players joining the K-League?

I guess another problem is that the players who come over from England or Aussie ... don't have anybody else from a similar background to hang out with.
At least with English teachers you basically walk into a social scene already. You might not necessarily find folks you want to hangout with but generally you will provided you're not a snob.
With these footie players I wonder who they hangout with. No doubt they think they are way too classy to be hanging out with a bunch of pisshead kiddie teachers.
Also Busan's shit. I mean that Champion nightclub. f**k how much money must people drop there. good hip hop club though. Shame about knife wielding homocidal maniacs that come in at 4 in the morning and hold everybody hostage though.

speaking of english teachers...I hope u guys aren't illegal teachers because i've heard some were getting caught or something. I dunno the whole story behind it since i don't watch too much Korean news. Anyhoo...i could understand these foreigners, i mean, if i was a footballer (which i'll never be... ) and went to play for some club in Finland or something, i would definitley have hard time adjusting. And i'm sure there is no other fellow Korean to hang out with. I blame it on the English teachers for not making the English Footballers welcome... ;D ;D

I tried my best to make Cookie feel at home but it seems that even an endless barrage of drunken abuse wasn't enough to make him stick around.
Useless English pwick that he was!

But Urumov isn't a Scot....just an honorary one. Loads of 'good' Scottish players going to be available in the January window since all the clubs are skint. Also Porterloo should make a move for Juninho....probably get him on loan cheap from Celtic

the circus goes on ------------------------------
London stalling: Elrich on tenterhooks as Spurs move hangs by thread
Club officials and management consultants are working behind the scenes to break the impasse over Australian Ahmad Elrich's planned move from South Korea to English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
Elrich, 23, was due for a trial at White Hart Lane on December 12, but the trip foundered over the size of the transfer fee. The player believed he had a maximum $US200,000 ($258,500) in his contract with Busan Icons, but when Spurs inquired they were told the fee would be up to 10 times as much.
Elrich, who returned to Sydney in November for family reasons, has not gone returned to Korea and missed Busan's victory in the Korean Cup final.
Representatives of the player - a management company linked to former Liverpool and Wales striker Ian Rush - Icons manager Ian Porterfield and Spurs officials have been trying to find a way out of the stand-off in the hope of avoiding the case being referred to world governing body FIFA.
A further complication is that the UK company that negotiated Elrich's transfer from Parramatta Power to Busan in July is insisting it still represents the player. Elrich said yesterday he had been advised not to make a statement for legal reasons.
Spurs have scouted Swede Christian Wilhelmsson, of Belgium's Anderlecht, as an alternative to Elrich, but are still believed to prefer the Australian international should a move become possible during the transfer window, from tomorrow until January 31.
Premier League rivals Middlesbrough have also expressed an interest, while top-flight hopefuls Wigan Athletic and West Ham are also tracking his progress. Despite having 12 months left on his contract, Elrich remains reluctant to return to Korea should his case end up before a FIFA tribunal - a process that could force him to sit out of the game for several months and may affect his Socceroos selection chances in a World Cup qualifying year.

He's worked out a way to make money though. Sign any old supposedly half decent footballer from Britain or Aussie and then wait until they want to sod off or else until a British club wants to dump way too much money to buy them. Busan is going to be the richest club in the league soon and then maybe Porterfield can buy a ruddy suit to wear on the sideline
