The 2004 J-League championship was won on penalties by Yokohama. Urawa Reds won the second leg 1-0 to level the scores, and it seems the game went to penalties which Yokohama won 4-2. I'd rather the game today didn't go to penalties, though it bodes well seeing a blue team beat a red one

That sucks. I bought that Urawa jersey when I was in Japan because I thought they were going to win the league. Damn! And on penalty kicks no less. Uhg!
Have I mentioned I hate penalty kicks, to end a game. There has to be a better way.

better way to end a match? Play a game of Ping-Pong among the captains? ;D
No seriously though...I think there should be more than 2 overtimes. Just keep friggin playing till a team scores and wins.

I'm glad Urawa got binned .... I've taken an irrational dislike to them Even if this means Ahn Jung Haircut wins something.

Maybe a drop off of players until ome team scores.
In touch rugby that happens. Teams start with 7 players, then every two minutes they have to drop one off the field until it's 4 on 3 or whatever. Someone scores pretty quickly.
Or get rid of the goalkeepers for the start of the second extra time period.
Or have a free ball in the penalty box where the attacker has to score without the ball leaving the penalty box and the goalkeeper and possibly one defender have to clear the ball??? fupp knows but something that involves some more alround football skill might be better than penalties where the Goal keepers cheat like hell by moving early all the time anyway.

Surely a penalty is a test of football skill as well?

Surely a penalty is a test of football skill as well? Yeah it is but it's a bit too 'in the moment' for me. I've only had to take one before and didn't know where the hell to put it. Just smacked it as hard as I could and the keeper dived and it scored straight down the middle. Blind luck basically. Also it is very relient on the goalkeeper. I'd like to see more people involved. Not to mention less cheating from the keepers who come off their line 9 times out of 10 before the kick has been taken. fupp knows

Surely a penalty is a test of football skill as well? Or in the case of Zoran Urumov on Sunday, a test of whether he could stay upright long enough to walk from the centre circle to the penalty spot and blooter the ball past Kim Byung-ji... ... and then get blootered on champagne (Urumov gets a tickking off from Choi Sung-yong for kicking the ball too hard as Nadson runs off to fetch it back)
