I picked this book (by Sebastian Moffett) up recently, and it's a pretty interesting read. It's a history of the J-League detailing how it got started and how it was run. A couple of interesting passages: (About the Urawa Reds' supporters group, "Crazy Calls") "Late in 1993 Crazy Calls banned women from the key support area behind the goal. Shouts of encouragement to players in 'yellow voices' had little effect on support, they reasoned; it was young men's deeper, rougher, louder voices that damaged the opposition's spirit. "We didn't really mind having girls around," explained Koichi Yoshizawa, their first leader, "but our image was getting soft."" (about the Kashima Antlers supporters group, something that appeared in a club fanzine written by fan leader Toru Kawazu) "To secure a basic degree of passion you need rules behind the goal, which may mean normal people can't come near," he explained. "If people come along just to savour a bit of the atmosphere, then the level of excitement drops. So it is essential to have disadvantages to being behind the goal - like having to stand throughout the match, being squashed so you can hardly see, having things thrown at you, or getting into arguments. Then the only people there are those willing to put up with this" Nice

I'm going to start a new fans group for all the females who cant get in the other ones.
There will be rules though....squashing will definitely be involved.

If memory serves me correctly, Japanese Rules is the book that is cut up into "themed" chapters? The one that talks a bit about Gary Linekar.... the Japanese kid who goes to Brazil.... how the amateur league became the fad-ridden J.League, etc? Yeah, a pretty good book, but read the one by the geeky guy who follows Shimizu S-Pulse. He has a wicked sense of humour. Hopefully I can follow in his lead. ;D

All the guyswho follow S-Pulse are geeky!
J-League is going to be busy next season. They've extended the league by 2 teams and scrapped the playoff system.
Add in 2 cups, asian competitions and NT games and there is a shedload of football.
Good to see that the J-league have scrapped the play-offs so no doubt the koreans will too after a season or 2 more.

There's a fair bit about Korean football in there too.

Went to a bookshop today, and saw a couple I should read:
No More Buddha, Only Football (Japan et al)
You Come With Me - I Get Ticket (about following East European footie)
Anyway, my book is guaranteed to be 100% free of the World Cup 2002, unlike 95% of K/J footie books on the market at the moment.
