JEF United (and ex-K-leaguer) Sandro was arrested this week in Tokyo on charges of attempted rape.

Still trying to find out the details but it appears he is in a lot of trouble.

JEF Ichihara striker Sandro was arrested in Tokyo on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted rape, it was learned Friday.

According to Yoyogi Police Station, the 24-year-old Brazilian--full name Sandro Cardoso dos Santos--is suspected of attempting to sexually assault a woman in her twenties at his apartment in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, after getting her drunk one day in early May.

Sandro denies the charge, and his club said it would do what it could to help him prove his innocence.

The striker, who has represented Brazil at under-21 level, has scored 11 times in 26 J1 appearances this season. He joined JEF last year after a stint playing for South Korea's Suwon Bluewings.

Korean media are reporting that he's been sentenced to 18 months in jail for the attack.

A J. League soccer player pleaded guilty on Tuesday to attempted sexual assault of a fan in May last year.
Sandro Cardos Dos Santos, 24, of JEF Chiba, entered the plea during his first court hearing at the Tokyo District Court.

"I want to pay for my crime by working hard as a soccer player. I'll never do it again, so please give me another chance," he told the court.

During the hearing, prosecutors demanded that Santos be jailed for 18 months for indecent assault.

"Even though he should be a model for young soccer players, the defendant betrayed their trust," a prosecutor said in a closing statement.

Santos, who was born in Brazil, took a female fan in her 20s to his home in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, in late May this year, and fondled her body after she fell asleep, according to prosecutors.

Shortly after he was arrested in November, he categorically denied the allegations. Santos joined JEF United Ichihara, the predecessor of JEF Chiba, in 2003 after playing for a South Korean K. League team. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Feb. 1, 2005)

The Tokyo District Court on Monday sentenced Brazilian forward Sandro Cardoso Dos Santos of J. League team JEF United Ichihara-Chiba to 10 months in prison, suspended for three years, for sexually assaulting a woman at his home in May 2004.

According to the ruling, Dos Santos, 24, touched the body of a female friend of his fiancee against her will in his house in Chiba on May 23.
