Welcome to the national team section. The World Cup qualifiers are about to resume. Have the Asian Cup and Olympics given cause for optimism?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm The million dollar question. Well I'd say Korea would be a 20/80 prospect of making the second round at the next WC for me at the moment.

Aye, they'll get to Germany... and probably not do too well, so bye bye Bonfrere.
then what do the KFA do?
(though "not do too well" is relative to the expectations now after 2002... as they'll probably have their 2nd best ever World Cup tournament run but still be seen as having failed)

Yeah, thats the problem now. The likelihood is that Korea will not make it out of the group stages unless they get a pretty easy group. In the past they were happy just to be there but now that will see the manager getting fired.

I think their performance might also be influenced by how stupid the media is here.
If they say "well we did well last time but we will probably lose 3 from 3 this time" then that may take some pressure off the team.
But if it gets all hyped up and unrealistic (most likely scenario) then they'll probably fold like wet cardboard.

2006 is closer than most people will have you think. Two years! Basically Korea needs to find its way of using its superior stamina and energy and work rate to defeat its opponents and use tactics that assume the opponents have superior skill ... you know, what Hiddink did.

TEXTHello, everybody. I am Indonesian living in Singapore. I am a fan of Korean National Team. Hopefully I am welcomed here. Kam Sa Hap Ni Da. My favourite player is Park ji Sung. It is fantastic to find an english language Korean football forum. My first contribution is to ask: Do we really need to recall europe-base players for the upcoming WC qualifier against Vietnam? They will get slight fatigue from long journey. I also think that they can improve more if they play more regularly in Europe. K-league players (and players in japan) should be much better than South-East Asia players.

Welcome aboard PJS. I think you've got a point. The way I see it, younger players are more likely to be in a competitive mood, wanting to take every chance to show their credentials. Some of the "top" players have, against the likes of Vietnam and Maldives, played with an ennui that meant they weren't worth their place.

Bit of a risk for for the boss though.... if he doesn't pick the Euro guys and then manages a 0-0 draw he gets slaughtered. Also if the WC guys don't play nobody will turn up to watch the games!!!

This weekend is a break weekend in Europe anyway as there are European group WC qualifiers coming up, so the Euro Koreans won't be missing any club matches.
Anyone know what time kick-off is for the Vietnam game next Wednesday?
