Qu Bo future uncertain (28/01/05)
Former Chinese international Qu Bo could be without a team in 2005 as Shanghai Zhongbang are unwilling to meet Qingdao Zhongneng's asking price of RMB1.8m for the transfer-listed player.
Newly promoted Zhongbang are prepared to pay no more than RMB1.5m to secure the services of the speedy winger who in 2002 had trials with a number of European clubs including Tottenham and Feyenoord.
During pre-season training with Ma Liangxing's squad, 24-year-old Qu strained muscles in a friendly match against North Korea and left the club's training centre on Hainan island last night.
"I'm well aware that it is very difficult to find a club in just four days," admitted Qu, who featured in all three of China's 2002 World Cup matches. "But I'm still young and I still want to play football. This time spent training with Zhongbang was too short. I don't know the team well and I'm not familiar with their way of playing. And I'm not in top physical form so it's impossible to show my best level here. But I do appreciate Zhongbang and Ma Liangxing for giving me this opportunity."
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Zhongbang are set to move for Inter Shanghai's 31-year-old midfielder Lu Wei.
Another Qingdao and former national team player, Zhou Ting, could complete a move to Shenzhen Jianlibao on Monday. Qingdao's asking price is roughly RMB4m, but the reigning CSL champions are willing to pay a maximum of RMB3.5m. Zhou has said he is prepared to pay the difference out of his own pocket as he does not want to be out of a job.
