Get real. Are we the 51st state of the US? Have the Americans really REALLY taken our rights, our freedom and liberty? Do you think the North Koreans are going to be nice to you because you have a cozy feeling of brotherhood? If the s**** hits the fan, the Americans will be out there fighting for us. And when the s**** hits the fan, it's going to be the North Koreans coming down to get our folks.

Have the Americans really REALLY taken our rights, our freedom and liberty? No but they are freaking annoying in groups of more than ..well....zero. And we all know that when the shit hits the fan the first line of defence will be the English teachers.

the first line of defence will be the English teachers. I can see it now ;D "Yes, I'll join your collective farm, but you have to provide accommodation and severance pay." It'll drive the North Koreans mental.

Americans being annoying or being a pain in the ass is nothing compared to the kind of grief the North Koreans will give us.
My time in America has kept me away from my friends, family (the ones that don't piss me off anyway), has taken my girlfriend from me and has been very, very lousy. The "best 4 years" of my life have been a f***ing waste. And the embassy messed up my passport so there is still an outside chance that I won't even graduate!!!! But I keep it in perspective. In terms of America giving me a hard time, for me it was PERSONAL. But if you ask me, Americans or North Koreans in Seoul, I'll say Americans at the drop of a hat.

I just find that topic hard to be funny about these days... because people actually believe North Korea instead of America crap and that outright worries the living c*** out of me.
p.s. I guess we should cool down the anger (on my part) but yeah I was pissed because you seem to downplay or just plain say crap about anything that gets good rep. First that movie (which was fine), and then the pub team (I kinda lost it there).

I didn't actually say Taegukki was crap...I really enjoyed it.
I said it didn''t live up to the hype that had gone before it since it was built up to me personally to be one of the most significant movie experiences of all time .. almost life changing.
As it was ... it was a well-made enjoyable Korean take on Saving Private Ryan.
As for the US/NK thing...I'd say having lived in the US for most of the last year that the reporting of most foreign affairs in the US and NK in particular is so skewed as to be almost not worth watching.
In real terms your average Korean DOES have more to fear from the GI on the streets of Seoul than the NK infantryman in Pyongyang at least in the immediate term.
I suppose i just laugh when I hear the talk of NK bombs and Chinese invasions etc because I've had to endure the paranoid witterings of Ex-pat English teachers (almost exclusively from North America) assuring everyone who stays here that we will defitely be nuked before christmas.
Do I think Kim cares for the people of NK? no.
Does he care for the SK people? Even less I would imagine.
Does Bush?? Doubt it, and has already shown a knack for messing up other people's countries.

Personally don't care about Bush's prioritiets etc etc. It's ultimately about South Korea for us.
This is my 4th year in the US.... there are so many prevailing views here it's hard to say what's what. The one thing I do know is so little comes out of North Korea the only way we'll ever know the truth is when Kim Jung-il falls.

It's no good SteveW your'e wasting your breath on this one. I find that the dislike for the Americans is way, way, way more of a problem with Koreans than with westerners. I gave a kid tonight some imported candy and he asked my missus if it was American. She said yes and he threw it away. When she said, whoops no it's Japanese he picked it back up again. It's South Koreans young folk you need to worry about falling into bed with the Borth Koreans not the likes of us. Though I am of the firm belief that all the nonsense about how dangerous the north is and that an attack is imminent comes from people who aren't actually in Korea. The time for a north Korean invasion with a vague chance of success passed a very very long time ago and their nutcase dictator is not even crazy enough not to realise that.

Personally I believe the only reason North Korea will not attack is because it would be the shortcut to Kim Jong-il losing everything he has. That's the only reason. If it appears America won't fight North Korea, and it appears that the North Koreans can beat the South Koreans, I don't see what would really stop Kim Jong-il from attacking. Personally I don't have much faith in his generosity. Actually what may stop him is that if a war does break out, his general population that invades Seoul etc. will actually learn they have been lied to about the South, and that actually we are quite wealthy etc. That could harm his leadership as well.
As for imminent danger of North Korean attack, I don't believe it either. But things can change... so going back to the main topic... if you're going to build tall buildings, build it in Busan!

Kim jong-il is barely in charge of his military anyway. There are plenty more powerful people up there to keep happy than just him.
He could turn around and say "attack" and they'd say "sod off". None of them want to go on a suicide mission and kiss goodbye to their fine wining and dining priveleges either.

Well that's just supporting my argument. An attack or even suggesting an attack would sabotage his power. I think I forgot to mention he's got to keep his people around him happy as well. I think that's the main reason for the opening of tours in North Korea. They need money and they know there's a high demand for the tours.

Kim Jong-il's supposed to be a big movie fan - bet he's looking forward to this.
